Codecs
A codec is used to code and decode data or signals. The purpose of codecs is to reduce the amount of data to be transferred. Different codecs have different characteristics. Using them, the bandwidth, voice quality or compression are synchronised between the VoIP provider/PBX and telephone. The codec used has a direct effect on call quality over VoIP.
